The Showrunner Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
