The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Every squad has just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
