Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind a series of unforgettable images worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

His passing follows less than a month after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
