Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
