Nigel Farage Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling students that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They promote this negative culture.”
In response to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
