Around 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on the start of the week after intense storm systems swept through the region, generating wind gusts topping 109km/h.

Health officials warned that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.
