Israelis have gathered around the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are considered reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again present a danger to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state memorials until mid-October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people killed in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised on Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was observed across the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the conditions of the plan.

A high-ranking representative involved in the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of indirect talks began at 7 PM local time.

The official said the day's discussions finished without significant progress, amid disagreements over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet deliver any significant progress," but noted that mediators are striving to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent truce
  • The swap of the hostages still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war administration of the area

Civilian Reaction

In the city's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose sibling endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere seems like home anymore and until all the hostages are released no one will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can feel relief again. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

In front of the leader's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel reports 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant explained: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the captives to come back home. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be secure."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of the population desire the hostilities to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Conditions

At the area of Nova festival, mourners came together to pay their respects.

From there, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and zone districts and in the east side area of the community, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the dusk falls, the fear arrives with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, explained.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my youngest child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we monitor the reports to see developments. And I'm worried that this truce will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Health Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the remains of six people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of the city reported additional fatalities had been brought there. One of them was lost his life by Israeli forces while seeking aid to the south region, medics stated.

The territory's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
