Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the US has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported debris landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
